What actually changes when an ad is made with AI instead of a camera: where the money goes, how long it takes, and when a real shoot is still the better choice.
Short answer: an AI ad removes the most expensive parts of a traditional production (crew, equipment, locations, permits, talent and reshoot days), so it usually costs a fraction of a live-action shoot. It does not remove the craft: strategy, scripting, editing, colour grading and sound design still take the same care. The timeline is often similar to a well-run ad production, but it is far more predictable, because nothing depends on weather, location availability or casting.
We run both kinds of production at CEMA in Dubai, live-action ads and commercials and realistic AI ads, so this comparison comes from real projects rather than theory.
A live-action commercial in the UAE is built from a stack of costs that all scale with the number of shoot days:
For reference, CEMA’s own live-action pricing starts from AED 4,000 for ad reels and runs to AED 35,000–120,000+ for multi-asset campaigns. Most of that range is driven by the items above, not by editing.
An AI ad skips the physical shoot. The budget moves to the parts that actually decide whether an ad works:
| Traditional production | AI ad production | |
|---|---|---|
| Crew and equipment | Required for every shoot day | Not needed |
| Locations and permits | Fees, scouting, permits | Any location, real or imagined |
| Talent | Casting, fees, usage rights | Generated characters, no usage fees |
| What sets the schedule | Crew, location and talent availability, weather | Creative and revision rounds |
| Reshoots | A new shoot day | Regenerate the scene |
| Extra versions and languages | Limited to what was filmed | Easy to add |
| Overall cost | Full production budget | Usually a fraction of it |
Done properly, both take real time. At CEMA, brand films and full ad productions take about 2–4 weeks depending on scope, and most AI ad projects land in the same range. The difference is what fills those weeks. In live action, much of the calendar goes to casting, location scouting, permits and aligning shoot days. In AI production, almost all of it goes to creative work: the strategy session, script, key frame approval, motion, edit, sound and revisions. That makes AI timelines more predictable, and extra versions arrive much faster once the first ad is approved.
For social, digital and many broadcast uses, yes, when the ad is directed by people who make real ads. The 2026 generation of models can produce 4K images with accurate light and legible text, and native 4K video with synchronised sound. What separates a convincing AI ad from an obviously synthetic one is direction: writing shots like a director’s shot list, feeding the models real product references, and rejecting anything that looks off. That’s why we treat AI as a new camera, not as a replacement for the team behind it.
In those cases we film for real, and often combine the footage with AI-built scenes in a hybrid ad, so you get authenticity where it matters and scale everywhere else.
Usually, yes. An AI ad removes crew, equipment, location, permit, talent and reshoot costs, which make up most of a live-action budget. You still pay for strategy, direction, generation and post-production.
Not always faster for the first ad, since good strategy, editing and sound design still take time. They are more predictable, and extra versions, languages and formats are much faster to produce than with live action.
Yes. Photos of your real product, packaging and brand guidelines are used as references so the product stays accurate in every frame.
